Flying Flucos and Clover Hill dominated JRD in the late 70's...
If you wanted to win the JRD, you had to beat Clover Hill. They left for AA in 1980. Then there was Fluvanna. Beating Fluvanna 7-0 was the key game in 1980. Maybe the biggest game of the year including the playoffs. Fluvanna was always well coached and tough. That was quite a haul traveling up to Fluvanna from Lunenburg or vice versa. To this day, the "Flying Flucos" is still one of the coolest names around. Today, the JRD is pretty much the old Southside District with the additions of Nottoway, Randolph-Henry and Bluestone. Prince Edward was back and forth from the Southside to JRD. The only thing that hasn't changed in the past 40 years is that Cumberland still stinks. It's nice to have Goochland gone since they were like the Alabama of the district mainly due to their much larger student enrollment. It'll interesting see how Goochland adjusts to Class 3 or 4 in the upcoming years.
